Palm Coast, FL – Fifteen kilos of cocaine washed up on the beach on Surfview Drive in the Hammock area of Palm Coast Friday evening are in the hands of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. FCSO received an anonymous call around 7 p.m. about a duffel bag found on the beach.
Investigators say that it appears that the bag has been in the ocean for some time as it was covered in barnacles and seaweed. Along with the cocaine, the bag also contained a large amount of sand and shells.
Officers say that one of the kilo-sized bricks was open and a block of white substance was exposed. The substance field-tested positive for cocaine.
“It is likely that these drugs have been in the ocean for a long time and they just happened to wash up on our beach from the rough surf and wind we have had the last few days,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “I’m thankful that the person who located the bag did the right thing and called us. These are dangerous narcotics and could be deadly in the wrong hands.”
No other bags were found in a search of the area. A notification was sent to surrounding law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for bags on their beaches.
If you come across a suspicious package, call law enforcement immediately. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477). You could be eligible for a reward up to $5,000.00.
