Daytona Beach, FL – Don’t put those jackets away. The National Weather Service says you’re probably going to need them for the rest of the week.
A recent cold snap mixed with higher humidity brought colder temperatures to Volusia County, with temperatures hitting the lower 60s and higher 50s at night. Mix that with gusts of wind and the occasional shower and you get a rather cold and unpleasant night.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the case for the rest of the week. Derrick Weitlich, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Melbourne, spoke to News Daytona Beach and said that a cold front bouncing around the state is to blame.
“The front actually kind of lifts northward into tomorrow and then it will shift back south,” said Weitlich. “So it’s kind of the same frontal boundary, just moving back into the area into Friday.”
Just this morning (November 13th), some spots in Volusia saw temperatures dip below 50°F, with 48°F being reported in DeLand by the National Weather Service around 6:55.
“(Expect) mid to upper 50s on Friday night, then we’re cooler than normal into the weekend with temperatures getting into the mid to upper 60s across Volusia County.”
Along with the colder weather, you can expect wetter weather as well. Weitlich says there is a higher chance of rain for the rest of the week.
“We have high rain chances in the forecast (tonight) into Friday,” said Weitlich. “In terms of rainfall amounts, we’re not expecting heavy rainfall.”
Expect a few windy days headed into next week. The NWS’ current 7-day forecast shows winds between 5 to 10 mph for the rest of this week into next week, with some days expected to have gusts up to 20 mph.
