A man driving a Dodge Charger painted to look like the “Dukes of Hazzard’s” General Lee led Florida Sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase Tuesday night.
Allegedly, Oswald Pereira, 44, of Morriston, got into a fight with his wife before setting fire to her home and fleeing the scene. Pereira lead authorities on a chase that went into Levy County, back to Marion County and again into Levy County… all in a Dodge Charger painted to look like the famous General Lee. Eventually he ditched the easy to find muscle car for a GMC Yukon before a PIT maneuver from the police sent him fleeing on foot into a nearby mobile home where he was found hiding in the closet.
Pereira has burns to over 15% of his body, faces charges of arson, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting without violence and three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Other than Pereira, no injuries were reported in the fire, and two dogs were rescued from the blaze.
