DeLand, FL – The Volusia County School Board has chosen: the new Superintendent of Volusia County Schools is Dr. Ronald “Scott” Fritz, currently Chief of Staff for Teaching, Leading, and Learning for Osceola County Schools. The Board made the final selection at today’s November 12) regular meeting.
The search began in June with the application deadline on September 25. A 25-person committee vetted 38 completed applications, narrowing the field to seven semi-finalists. After interviewing those candidates, the School Board narrowed the field to three finalists: Dr. Fritz, Dr. Peter Licata, currently Regional Superintendent for Palm Beach County Schools, and Dr. David Moore, currently Assistant Superintendent in Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
Last week, the finalists were interviewed by the School Board during a public meeting, met with the public at a community reception and then interviewed individually by each member of the School Board.
The Volusia County School Board now enters into contract negotiations with Dr. Fritz. Work on a final contract will be approved at a future school board meeting.
