Ormond Beach, FL – A local group, Ormond Strong, is working to give veterans, both homeless and living in nursing homes, a better Christmas. Debbie Kruck-Forrester, Ormond Strong Commander, says her group is looking for all kinds of help, whether it’s your time, money or items on the list. Or help with something not on the list, like baking cookies, providing entertainment or just spending time visiting with the veterans.
Everyone is invited to the four events scheduled, two of them right here in Daytona Beach. Ormond Strong will host an event at the Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 18 at 2 p.m. and at Barracks of Hope on Friday, December 20 at 3 p.m. The other two events are on December 15 at 2 p.m. at the Clyde E Lassen Veterans Nursing Home in St. Augustine and on December 19 at Transition House in St. Cloud. Kruck-Forrester hopes that people will come out to let the veterans know that they care.
Kruck-Forrester said there is not a drop-off set up but anyone that wants to donate or gather the items asked for can contact her at 386-566-3685 or by email at ormondstrong@gmail.com She says that someone from Ormond Strong can pick up or she can give you a drop-off location. If you are going to collect items from the list, please contact Ormond Strong so they will know what items are covered. They are collecting items for more than 300 veterans. Kruck-Forrester also said that the gift of your time is really important to the veterans.
Items that are needed include non-skid slipper socks, men’s underwear, including t-shirts, 40 sets of twin sheets and pillowcases, locks for lockers, bicycle locks, bus passes, puzzle books, holiday cards, and Christmas stockings.
Look for the Ormond Strong booth next week at the 46th Daytona Turkey Run.
