Rumors surrounding Van Halen’s status as a band and Eddie Van Halen’s health are escalating quickly. Earlier this week Metal Injection reported on an interview from September with the bands’ singer David Lee Roth. When talking about his residency, Roth said,
“I think Van Halen’s finished and this is the next phase.”
Then, Toto guitarist Steve Lukather tells Eddie Trunk in a podcast episode that Van Halen might be on hiatus due to health issues.
“[Eddie] and Alex are sitting there laying back and they’re waiting to see what happens next. I think they’re on a hiatus. There’s been some health issues that they’re dealing with and stuff like that. We’re older guys now, and to go on the road, and stuff like that, it requires a lot of extra effort in terms of as a human being…I’m not the guy to say anything. I love those brothers so much and we’ve always had a great relationship. I’m a big fan and also adore them as human beings.”
And now, Montreal Gazette is saying Eddie is received visits from those close to him, including his ex-wife of 21 years, Valerie Bertinelli. Van Halen and Bertinelli called it quits in 2002 and in 2011 she married financial planner Tom Vitale.
We don’t know what to think but we wish Eddie the best.
