DeLand, FL – Volusia Sheriff’s deputies say the truck 38-year-old Robert Bradley was driving burst into flames at the end of a chase. He’s facing multiple charges.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Bradley early Sunday (November 10) morning but he sped away. Other deputies deployed Stop Sticks in Bradley’s path several times before his tires were destroyed.
Even though the tires were gone, he kept driving across baseball and softball fields in Chuck Lennon Park before coming to a stop in an orange grove. Bradley was ordered out of the truck. After he complied, the truck burst into flames with a passenger, 39-year-old Kelly Souder, still inside.
When he appeared to reach for his waistband, one deputy fired a round from his beanbag shotgun, hitting him in the back. Bradley was checked out by Volusia County Fire officials. He was cleared and he and Souder were taken to the Volusia County Jail.
Deputies found methamphetamine and a needle while taking Bradley into custody. A fire extinguisher was used to put out the flames coming from the hood of the pickup truck.
Both Bradley and Souders have open warrants for their arrests in Lake county. Bradley is charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement with emergency lights and sirens activated, possession of methamphetamine, criminal mischief over $1,000 in damage and possession of narcotics paraphernalia He’s in the Volusia County Jail with bond set at $22,200. Souder is only charged with Possession of Paraphernalia at this time. She is still in custody.
